Child comes into the world without bacteria involved in tooth decay. The main cause of oral infections with bacteria of child tooth decay is a bacteria transfer from parents.

Licking baby pacifier, or teaspoon unknowingly we are moving bacteria into baby’s mouth, causing exposure of child to caries disease.

Reduction or elimination of bacteria resource from group of Streptococcus mutans by dental treatment and use of chlorhexidine mouthwashes by mother and father can delay or completely prevent child infection.

Oral health of pregnant women indirectly influences on child development and, in particular, on development of early caries. Women are not made aware by doctors of high infectivity of dental caries and the possibility of transferring bacteria into the baby's mouth. Such knowledge would contribute to the growth of interest in children's and parent’s teeth condition and as a result it could prevent or delay the development of children dental caries.

During pregnancy - or even in period of preparation for pregnancy - women should implement appropriate preventive action: have a complete dental care and introduce additional hygiene habits by using mouthwashes with chlorhexidine.

Chlorhexidine is effective and safe component of germicidal preparations, which significantly affect on the reduction of caries bacteria in mouth. It has been proven that use of chlorhexidine mouthwashes is very effective and most effectively reduces level of mouth bacteria after 20 seconds! With wide range of safety and efficacy, using of this product is recommended even for small children and physically impaired, for understandable limited dental hygiene care.

Parents need to know that in theirs child entourage, they are main carriers of caries bacteria (group of Streptococcus mutans bacteria) and they need to know major transmission routes of infection. This will allow implementation well enough in advance of appropriate measures to prevent and modify the behavior of their parents. Already parents refrain from acts, which infect baby utensils (such as licking pacifier, spoon, drinking from a common cup) significantly reduces the possibility of accidental child infection by parents. In addition, reduction or elimination of bacteria from Streptococcus mutans group in mother’s and father’s mouth by healing teeth and using mouthwash with chlorhexidine may delay or completely prevent baby’s infection.
